Mom and Dad,

As I write this I'm staring out at the vast landscape that was the Delaware Water Gap. What once was a national park which protected a true piece of art for all to see has now been turned into a toxic wasteland. The only thing done there today will be that I and my comrades may die to defend that which we hold so dear. This is only one of the atrocities we found they'd done once we took this part of Delaware with unbelievable luck. When we first broke through what was the old border, it was a horrible sight. When we liberated New Milford it looked like a town in a 3rd world country. On the outskirts of the city hundreds of thousands living in unimaginable poverty while we could just see over it all and see enormous mansions with massive gardens lived in by a few of unimaginable wealth.

I just got back to this letter after a tactical briefing. Mom and Dad I don't want to say too much, in case they get this but there was one thing old scratchead said that I think you might want to hear:

"One score and 3 seconds ago, the 57th President of the United States made a radio address. I myself was listening at the time. We all thought it'd be nothing new: something about taxes or taxes. Indeed we were wrong. In a half hour he dissolved every public elected office, and said that the American people were to swear allegiance to the corporate despotism we now know as the Exxon-Mobilian Empire. This coup, which has destroyed so much, was something that had been whispered about for a long time. In response to such whispers, some said that if the campaign funding system were reformed it would stop such evils as what happened. Yet politicians, who only saw oil made sure that any reform effort disappeared from both the public and federal eye. Some said that the infamous terrorist attcaks at the turn of the century would bring the country closer together. And as we were in a big group hug, the forces in the majority freely dumped money from the treasury into the pockets of anyone involved with the oil industry. The forces of corruption and greed which led our country to its present state have been with us since the beginning. And since our great-grandparents didn't take direct non-violent action against the oil companies to change our situation for the better; we, for the past 20 years, have been forced to take violent action to defend ourselves, our families, our freedoms and the world. There was not one state that did not put up some resistance. Yet, most weren't strong enough to survive fight against the oil company that had secretly ruled America for so long. And now those still strong enough to resist like us are backed up against the wall...(Most of what was next was classified) In short, if the enemy defeats us, or can weaken us to the extent that they can get troops through our lines, there appears to be little that can be done to stop them from running over Canada, Russia, and finally linking up with their bases in the Pacific to launch a campaign against anyone they want. However, the European Union should soon reach a decision about whether or not to send in troops to help us against Exxon-Mobilia. If the E.U. decides favorably, and if we can hold the enemy for a few weeks, we should be expecting reinforcements within that time, and in the best possible case, may be able to reverse the direction of this war. We cannot fall to the rampage of Exxon-Mobilia and its troops, because we stand as so many have stood before for the freedoms and rights of which our country has been such a shining example. Paraphrasing the words of a former President who was in the pocket of the oil companies himself , 'We will not falter. We will not come short. We will not fail. We also need clean, efficient, and reliable..nukeular power'. Dismissed"

As I walk out to the front lines and prepare for the assault mom, and dad, and with Colonel Scratchead's speech in mind, I have to ask, why did we have to come to this? Why must American history be riddled with the blood, sweat and pain of its own people? Why must we be remembered as a country that was born on tea, grew up on cotton and slavery, and died on big oil?

Sincerely,
Pvt. Eric Geffery
