March 6th North Shore and New Hampshire
Today I checked out the boat ramp on the Merrimack River at Salisbury State Park .The surface was clear of snow and in good condition but the docks are not up yet.The sea was flat but no one was out fishing .Well it was low tide
I drove up route # 1A through Seabrook , Hampton and Rye ending in Portsmouth New Hampshire. This road has some of the best access for surf fishing and sea kayaking around. One center console fishing boat was seen 3 miles this side of the Isles Of Shoals........In 1967 the Atlantic Cod World record Was set here at 98lb 12oz....

The boat ramp on the Piscataqua River at Dover Point was Snow covered and unusable but should be ok later this week

April 8 Crow Hill Pond
This is the first day of fishing this year for me.
I picked up a License and bait and headed to a couple of ponds in the local area.
At Crow Hill one guy I talked with had caught 2 trout.
He also said they just stocked it a few days ago along with Bartlets in Leominster.
The ice was out at crow Hill but I`m not sure about Bartlet Pond.
I caught one "8 trout at Crow Hill Pond And a yellow perch at the small pond next to it.
There were about 9 people fishing and I saw 4 fish landed.
Nice to be fishing .

April 9th......
Today fishing at crow Hill in Westminster....landed 3 14" Trout....also many short hits...and only 2 other guys fishing at midday today...all fish caught on spinners .........

April 9 The week of... Paridise Pond,Crow Hill Pond
I fished Paridise Pond in Leominster State Park saturday
and talk with 2 guys that caught a 16" Laker at Wachusett Resevoir earlyer in the day.
.....Well, they thought it was a lake trout anyway ,but it may have been a salmon to.
The Shore fishing at Paridise Pond was good today.... 2 Pickerel a monster calico bass and a couple of bluegills. All were caught on Lg. meal worms 2ft off a bobber at dusk.

saturday 9th............................
At Crow Hill Pond I limted out on trout this morning.......a first for me on that score. This is the lure that worked............... I cast it out ......counted to 7 and reeled in just so fast, as to keep it from snaging the bottom.

Sunday 10th...............................
Trout fishing is still holding up at Crow Hill Pond in Leominster State Forest.
While Fishing Late today I landing 4 Trout

Tuesday 12th................................
The Trout are spreading out a little at Crow Hill Pond.
It`s been a week since they stock it but I still
landed 1 Rainbow at 14" in one hour of fishing.

Wednesday 13th..................... Wachusett Resevoir...........
The fishing opened here last Saturday and I was told
a couple of good sized Trout were landed.
One or two were said to be State
PIN fish also.
I fished the Stillwater basin inlet at the railroad bridge
with one other guy who was streamer fishing with a fly rod .
I was useing a 2"Yellow and a 3" silver and blue Pheope.
I Had one hit on the blue and silver.
I then moved to the causway and talked to a guy that fished the lake Wallom Ice fishing Derby
In Leominster Ma and picked up a state pin for a Salmon he caught.
He also said he landed a 2 lb Laker the day before yesterday on a blue and silver spinner.
The best fishing times were from dawn to about an hour and a half after ,unless its cloudy Then the bite may last longer `he said`
I counted 14 people fishing at 2.00pm near the causeway and
a MDC boat doing Water quality testing.
Remember May 1st of last year was when Michael Sienkiewicz of Worcester caught his state record 24 lb Laker right here.

Friday 15th................................Crow Hill Pond
I picked up 2 Trout today. But it`s a lot more work catching them ,
maybe fishing earlyer in the day at sunrise would help.
PS:..............The Trout stocking Guys did a great Job this year
and I would just like to thank them from all of us .........Thanks .

Saturday 16th.....................Lake Wyman
The water is waming up well here .
Early spring Fishing with
giant meal worms on a bobber hook rig
is as good as it gets this time of year.
Fish are going for them above all other rigs.

Sunday 17th to 20th..................... Leominster State Forest
This is school vaction week here and alot of parents are taking the kids fishing or hiking.
The weather is great for both . The water temp is still in the 50s but the fish are starting to feed more .
I have caught alot of yellow Perch and Pickerel but no Largemouth Bass yet.
Pan fish jigs tiped with live meal worms or power bait worm bits fished off a bobber is whats working.
But anything you try needs to be worked slowly.
Wednesday 27th .....................

I fished at 3 Ponds in the last few days
[Fort Pond, West Lake Waushakum and Paradise Pond]
At West Lake Waushakum meal worms on a bobber picked up a bunch of pan fish at dusk.
A kid I talked to here said that he had been catching trout like crazy and they were hitting everything he through at em .

At Fort Pond in Lancaster I fished from a kayak using gold spoons.
Two guys were fishing from shore and a couple of boats were trout fishing also but at midday no fish were caught.

At Paradise Pond I asked two guy who were Bass fishing from a boat if they had caught any Large Mouth Bass but the answer was no.
I did catch a Pickerel trolling in my kayak, good size to at 20.5" long. I thought I hooked bottom and then a stick but when I took the Rod from the holder the fish tugged twice........I landed it measured and then released it .

Saturday 30th .....................

Early this week I tryed fishing some spoons at Mare Meadow Reservoir
in Westminster Ma. midday for Bass or Pickerel.
The water is really high here so fishing from the causeway was easy.
But most of the shore fishing will have to wait for low water summer time conditions to arrive .
The Water is warming real fast and great fishing days are Ahead.

Lake wyman........................
I love to fish Lake wyman in the spring and early summer.
Today was no exception one cast = one fish .

South Cape Beach ............
I was working Friday night when the Cell phone rang,it was Mario
calling from the Cape to say he was catching schoolies.
This was in the open ocean not in the Poponessett River .....
but the river may be a good bet this early in the season to.
He said 5 Stripers to 22" were landed . Steve pick up 1 and Mario landed 4 .
Mario said, the bite turned on 2 hours before dark and stoped at sunset.
The bait was fresh herring chunks on a #7 hook with a 3oz sinker
set on a slip rig with a 2 foot 80lb mono leader.

May 3....South Cape Beach /Poponessett............

Matt and I headed to the Cape for early Stripers.
We meet at 1:30 Sunday afternoon and arrived at Red Top Tackle & Bait to a real booming business.
There must have been 5 guys working the counters and still they could`nt keep up...... so we Looked around a bit and headed to "Macos marina" /bait & tackle just 1/4 mile west on the left .
This guy gave us the staight dope on locale stripers.
So Guys ......visit the shop and buy some bait or rent one of his low cost/boats but remember it is a family oriented modest shop.
We then drove to Mashpee to try the surf fishing .
The sea was flat and we wished we had brough the Kayaks .
High tide was at 8pm and water temp was over 52 f ....we used chunk Herring and 3oz sinkers.
There was a small amount of Mung Weed but not bad.
There was 8 guys surf fishing late in the day and 3 or 4 boats .
We fished from 3pm-12:30am and our catch was 3 large green crabs to 16in.

May 21....Baker Pond , Paradise Pond............

In the past few days the fishing at Paradise Pond has been very good
with Pickerel to 24" on gold pheobes and the large mouth Bass are bedding up now.
On sunday night 2 beavers were swiming around my kayak and when I cast my top water lure they would dive and tail slap.I did catch one 17" pickerel on a silver spinner with a black worm.
The beavers did seemed to scare away the fish though.

On saturday at Baker Pond
in Carlton Ma.the pan fish were hiting
Chartreuse pan jigs tiped with Berkley Gulp Worms.
But at midday the bass were not around .

On Friday 3 Kayaks were fishing on Paradise Pond .
One guy I talked to Said that a bass had just broke off his worm rig
behind the North Island .The other Kayaker I talked to also said he caught 1 small bass, but that last year he hooked in to a 6.5 lb Large Mouth Bass that towed his Yak all around the pond .
May 30....Rocky Pond,Baker Pond,Paradise Pond............

I fished Rocky Pond in Bolton Ma. for the first time the other day.
It has a gravel public boat ramp and parking for 8 cars.
Some guys I work with like this pond for catching Largemouth Bass
so I though I`d give it a try.
I caught one Calico Bass from shore And talked to a guy
that picked up a good Pickerel at the center of the pond from a canoe.
Two other guys landing their boat said the Bass fishing has not picked up here yet.

June 8....Baker Pond,Paradise Pond............

At Baker Pond I fished from my kayak trolling and anchored up in the north cove .
The water is sill clear but an alge bloom may still show up this summer.
The catch was 3 yellow perch,2 caico bass and 1 white perch all caught trolling .

On Paradice Pond I trolling a silver spoon for about 5 mins
when I spoted rocks 10" under the kayak.
It turns out to be a sunken island of all clean rock and gravel..no weeds.
So I anchored up 30` away and started casting a silver pheobe across the gravel bed.
On the third cast...bang...I`m hooked up.The fish went under the boat .
So I lifted the anchor with one hand while holding the fishing pole in the other.
The fish then towed me for about 10 mins before I landed it .
A 5lb Large mouth Bass on an ultra light pole with 6lb test Berkley Trilean line.

Jun 23....York Beach Maine............

I fished for stripers in York Maine from Friday -Wednesday.
On the York River in a kayak , surf casting on Long Sand Beach
and off the rocks at Nubbell Light House.
All are with in 5 miles of each other.
On the river most people are bridge fishing with cut Mackrel on 2 to 4oz sinkers.
Sunday a guy I talked to had a 24-1/2 " striper in the ice box and had landed one 32" long that he released .
He said that the tide had to be running for the bite to be on.
At Nubbell Light I used a frozen Herring on a 3oz sinker and had one run off
but when I set the hook all that I got back was the head ,
I should have let him run a little longer and maybe a larger striper would have stole it.
I was told by I guy I met here that very large stripers are caught here all the time.
He said" to use a silver spoon on a light tackel rod to catch Polick in the deep water just off the near shore rocks.
Then live line him right away on a Surf Rod with a leader
of 30lb mono 4` long..... tied to a ballon 5" dia. as a float.
...Forty + pounders are caught all the time here this way.
At Long Sand Beach I had 2 short hits on cut squid with One fish that broke my line and a 24 pound striper measuring 35" long that took 15 minutes to land .

July 1....Brigham Pond,Wyman Lake............

I went to Brigham Pond in Hubardston sunday late afternoon between thunder storms.
There were 6 or 7 other boats fishing also.
Stayed till dark and caught one large bluegill on a 9" berkley power bait worm
and hooked a largemouth bass that danced on its tail for a self release.

On Thursday Fished 2 hours midday at lake Wyman in Westminster Ma.from the kayak
targeting largemouth bass with a silver spiner and 9" worm combo. In this cove the bass were thick..................I hooked 4 fish in rapid order.

July 27....Paradise Pond . Wrights Reservoir,Baker Pond,York River ............

I went to Paradise Pond a couple of times with only pan fish being caught --the weeds here have made the fishing tuff.

I fished at Wrights Reservoir in Gardnar Ma.
This is a new fishing spot for me.
The pond has a Car top boat access on a town road.
There`s a ton of Yellow perch that I caught trolling a gold spinner with a black skirt. You need a boat here because of the weeds along the shoreline.
I had a bass inhale my bobber and only my bobber while I was fishing for panfish.
I did try to set the hook?

Baker Pond has been treated for algae and is clear
with the fish much more active than before.
Bass are big in this pond but most have been caught before and won`t hit lures.
Live lineing yellow perch will work on these Largemouth Bass as I can atest to.

I kayak fished on the York River in Maine for stripers with Matt.
The water temp was about 60f and pretty clear also.
We Put in at the RT one Bridge and drifted with the out going for about 2 miles to the Wiggly Bridge.
The bass we caught were all schoolies about 20in long on a 4in white Fish-n-fin lure.
this is the spot they were hitting .

November 27th....Late summer and fall update ............

I know I find alot of time for fishing and a little less writing it down but here is my update.
I was brakeing in a new kayak `Wilderness Systems Pungo 100` this season.
This is a sit inside boat that is 48lbs and can carry up to 350-lbs .
The sit on top types were my first choice
but they weigh 55+ pounds and I can`nt carry them comfortably.
With this 10` kayak I can fully load it in 1 minute
at the car and carry it a long way to water .
I put off buying a kayak for about 3 months before picking up this model witch works just fine for me.
Ever since getting it I have fished only 2 time from shore.

One time was at cathedral rocks in Pigeon Cove Glorcester Ma.

This was in late July and August after the Stripers had settled in for the season.
Just beyond the rocks here in Glorcester, out
about 200 hundred Meters the commercial fishing boats clean there decks after a day on the water.
Well the Stripers love an eazy meal and hang out near shore waiting for the boats to came in.
At the begining of the season the Stripers are very hungry
and will hit frozen baits but as the weeks go by they won`t even touch it.
Later in the season the most fun can be had with top water plugs
on 10-lb line after dark or before sunrise.

York Maine Long Sand Beach

My wife was invited to a family reunion in Kennebunkport Maine on October 8th.
We stayed 3 days at the Cutty Sark Motel witch is right on the beach.
So on saturday she went to the reunion and I hit the surf.
I started out whatching the surface action with binoculars
throught the picture window with coffee and doughnuts .
The rain was falling off and on as the stripers where herding bait fish back and forth across the bay all day.
The Striper Charter boats fish here on a regular bases with spining and fly rod customers all the time.
Today 2 other guys and my self fished along the Dover Bluffs and waited as
the schools of Stripers moved it and out of casting range. The top water plugs recieved the most hits but they seemed focused only on the bait fish.
On sunday the sun came out and so did the boaters but the striper had move south.

December 7th....West Waushaccum Pond ............

I have been trout fishing with the Kayak a lot this fall.
Most of the time at West Waushaccum Pond in Sterling Massachusettes.
The State stocks trout here in the spring and fall,
Rainbows mostly but also Browns.
A State biologist had said a record Brown Trout
could be caught here if someone would try.
Check out `Latest Records` page for trophy fishing tips .
West Waushaccum pond is part of Wachusett Reservoir watershed
so no gas-operated outboard motors are allowed.
Electric trolling motors are permissible, however.
Here is were I`ve caught most of my Rainbows this fall
and all were caught trolling gold and black haired rooster tails
and silver Phobes when the sun was shinning.
Note a pair of Bald Eagles have been living on the east side of the pond this summer.
So, I think if you gut hook a fish here you should probably take the hook out.
