February 14th Rockport Ma.
Today Paul and I fished For Cod from shore in the Gloucester/Rockport area .This place, Pigeon Cove Point is a good spot for trying for near shore Cod and in our Grandads day when people said a chicken in every pot or was that a Cod in every pot.Well it was a lot easier fishing back then . The thing is a local gentlemen and his grandson caught view of our night fishing .You see we were fishing by lantern light and that was the way it was done in the past ........... I Flashed my lantern To the Gentlemen and he to me and although we did not plan it this way we caught more than cod .We caught the History of Cod fishing in Gloucester, for as a boy the older man looked out to sea and saw the past....... Gloucester fishing comes alive in the hearts and minds of those who can remember it and to those that still are out there giving it their best shot.

February 24 Webster Lake
Paul fished Webster Lake with Steve and his buddy using tip-ups and shiners. The setup was done at night with 14 or 15 holes and a large light. The Water was 20 feet deep and the shiners were set a foot off the bottom and by the way This kind of ice fishing works. Tonight a Lots of fish were caught. The Score was -- 1 small Pike 1 pickerel and 14 smallmouth Bass 11 keepers and 3 shorts
Ps;we fished near Goat Island...shhhhh!

March 27th Browning Pond
The trout stocking of Browning Pond started last week so we checked it out today. It was easy to see where the fish were dumped as the lake is still iced in .The outlet at the bridge has open water but the fish seemed to have spread out well. Next time we`ll try power bait and slide sinkers when the ice goes out .Tryed the Seven Mile River, Turkey Hill Brook area but that has not been stocked yet.

Aril 16th Crow Hill Pond
I headed to Crow Hill pond and fished for a couple of hours . On one rod I used a micro jig with a small bit of Berkley grubs and a small bobber.-- caught 3 yellow perch. On the second rod cut shad and a Texas rig .
One guy I talk with said the pond had been stocked yesterday.
It`s nice to be catching fish again .

Aril 18th Wyman Pond
The ponds in our area are warming up fast.
The crappie, yellow perch and bluegills were much more active today.
I fished from 11:30am to 12:30pm and caught 2 crappie 4 yellow perch and about 2 dozen bluegills.
I tryed to catch quantity today just for fun .
Spring Sunshine and fast fish. I used a pink colored micro jig (#14hook)with a small bit of Berkley Gulp grubs and a small bobber. This rig works great on pan fish in cold spring water .
I was fishing from shore near bridge. But car top boats can be set in here also. The "map link" below
Good luck map

Aril 25th Connecticut River
Headed to the Connecticut River in Chicopee for some Shad fishing .Stoped at Granby Road first and talked with a guy who said the pool was hitting slow with only a couple fish caught.I guess it`ll get better from here. The wall had fewer fishermen but about the same catch .Then we headed to the state boat ramp on the Connecticut River where there were 13 boats out. I talked with a boater just done for the day that said the striper fishing was slow so far but the shad were coming along with 2 caught just up river and one just below the ramp another guy said.Shore fishing at Slim Shad Point was slow today ,no fish caught this afternoon that I saw but one guy said the catch was good with a few caught the other day.

may 11th Falmouth ma.
Sunday night Matt and 2 buddy's shore fished the jetties and beaches in Falmouth for stripers. The bite was on and off all night. The tide was high at 3:00am and water temp was 51.F. Matt said The Stripers have been hitting for the last few days.Herring Chunks and open bail drifting is catching the most fish.Matt had one keeper 31.ins and his buddy's caught their limit.A lot of fish were caught with 5 shorts to 1 keeper

may 23 South Cape Beach ma.
Tonight Matt landed a cow striper on herring chunks. The T&G News Paper sports section reported that 16.5lbs was the max. caught this season so far..... but tonight Matt has smashed that record with a 32 lb striper and from the shore. He said on the first run she took 150yds + and the drag just sang ---20 mins later the once in a life time fish was heading for a photo shoot and a deep frier....great job Matt...
PS:Waders are a must to reach the big fish on this beach and daytime is not the way.Note:
The Stripers Will leave this beach in a couple of weeks so get there if you can.
Photos will be posted shortly

June 6th The week of...
The fishing this week was a mix of saltwater and fresh.Mario and Martin did some nice fishing on the South Beach Sunday night with 2.. 40" stripers at 23lb / 25lbs and again Wednesday with 5 blues up to 5 pounds .I fished Baker pond in Charlton sunday and caught one small bass 5" long and the bait I used was half his size .I Also went to Mike Sienkiewicz`s hot spot on Wachusett Resevoir where he caught a Mass. state record 24lb lake trout that was 40 inches long with a girth of 22 1/4in........ but 5 hours of fishing at the middle of the day was not so good .....I guess dawn and twilight for the big Trout............ is the rule.
Wachusett Resevoir map

June 13th The week of...
Went to Crocker pond in Leominster State Forest on Sunday and caught 1/2 a dozon yellow perch and one pickerel........Also tons of water beatles skimming the surface and only a couple of Bluegill nests by the shore.........and 2 turkey vultures soreing over head throwing shadows on me as I fished.....is that supposed to be good luck ?

June 26th The week of...
I went to York Maine Saturday and Sunday for some striper fishing .We(Naomi)and I stayed on Long Sand Beach and I fished the first day for Winter Flounder from shore at the North End of the Beach . --- This spot is Great for draging a flounder rig with sea worms with clean sand and Gin colored water .The catch for 2 hours fishing was 1 skate and a 22" keeper striper.
on the second day I went to the town dock in York and fished for 1 hour or so .one guy I met there said the best tide for Stripers in this river was 1 to 2 hours after high tide and that the some stipers are here all winter
Ps: Maine has a slot of 20 to 26" and 1 per day limit... so theres a real good chance for a keeper
........late today I went to Wachusett Resevoir near River road and put in my time , not many guys fishing today or fish being caught. I did see some fly fishing going on above the out flow tunnel but I did`nt stop and talk
Ps:...... the water is still pretty cold here
fri...fished Baker pond in Charlton Ma. caught 1 yellow perch . The pond has a algae bloom right now and it seems hard on the fish and fishing.........but its still good to be out there

July 5th The week of...
Saturday........I Fished the afternoon outgoing tide with more boat traffic than can be believed at Salisbury State Park. With about 27 boats anchor in the river(no drifting today)and constant traffic though the inlet.
The Striper had a lot of hooks to choose from....
the boats caught about the same number of schoolies as the surfcasters but I saw 2 keepers taken on the river from boats ...... from the look of things the mouth of the inlet took some nice Bass today to...I fished from shore on the north side of the river with mackrel chunks and had one run off but no hookups...

Monday........ Fished a new spot in Holden Ma ,Dawson Pond.I had a hour to fish....caught 3 or 4 pan fish in 5 Minutes and then a large snapin turtle showed and the fish disappeared ...fished a while longer .. thought I might get a hook up.....

July 11th The week of...
Sunday....... Fished Wachusett Resevoir Yesterday on the railroad causway in the Thomson Basin .I was the only one there this afternoon .I live lined a small bait fish I caught but the big fish were not Interested .At the Stairs a 20" + lake trout swam right up to it ...checked it out and dropped back to the deep...well its nice to know their here...the big fish are here with 6 state records, Rainbow Trout, White Perch, Smallmouth Bass, Salmon Landlocked, Brown Trout and Lake Trout....I keep telling my self you just got to put in the time...thats the easy part....the hard parts is finding it..

Monday.......Striper fishing at cathedrel rocks in Rockport at low tide yesterday .One other guy was fishing there and 5 scuba divers. One scuba diver rises out of the water in front of me as I fished and said I see 8 large stripers and then he points. I had Mackrel chuncks but no full size fish.....
I have to remember to bring at least one from now on.
I cast to where he said and driffed my bait over and over that spot for 20 mins they just did`nt like the offer......
Later at the car the diver comes over to talk.He works at the New England Aquarium and see`s Stripers all the time and has been dived here for years.Well these were the biggest Stripers he has ever seen here. The Striper schools are common he said but one of the Largest fish was big enough that his head would fit into its mouth.....wow
this guy was really,really excited.
Rockport map
Wednesday..........The fish where bitting at Wyman Pond today Bluegills. Yellow perch. Crappie and 1 Largemouth of 14"..One guy across the cove was fishing in the showers and seemed to be hooking up often also...The bass was caught on a silver spoon spinner with a black plastic leach..

July 18th The week of...
Sunday................................
I fished at Wyman Pond today caught a Crappie and 2 Largemouth bass...
one bass was caught on a silver spoon spinner with a 4" black Power bait worm.
The other on a green colored pan fish jig with a small bit of Berkley
Gulp grubs and a small bobber.
The Fishing was almost impossible today with the heavy boat traffic.
Some 6 or so kids on a plontoon boat were cheering as one bass
jumped twice near them as they Cruised by. Not a big fish but a jumper.
Wednesday........................................
I went fishing at a new pond yesterday in Lancaster Ma. Fort Pond (boat ramp)I can`nt say how good the fishing is here because I only stayed for 25 min. What I saw was clear water and it looked cold.
Maybe some trout from a boat at night, at a deep spring
with a light and live bait would work well here....

Aug 1st The week of...
I got out earlyer this week and fished at night on Wyman Pond in Westminster Ma.
at the channel mapand caught 1 Large mouth Bass
using a silver spinner with a 4in black worm combo.
I left for home as soon I landed and released it....I fished about 20 mins.

Friday........................................
I fished Paridise Pond in Leominster State Park today .
This is a Beautiful pond to Kayak/canoe on with a lot of wildlife.
The pond has the look of a northern Vermont location but is in central Ma.
and there are 2 islands with the rare Black Pine Tree growing there.
A family of Loons have lived on the pond and raised young
for the past 3 years summers.
On the fishing side The day time fishing is .......poor.
but at night top water buzz lures are great for large mouth bass.
To say nothing of the loons that squawk when you catch a fish
now thats pretty cool.....
PS: Catching a bass one night the loons went off and then the coyotes howeled at the loons when they went off.
This stuff was unheard of 10 years ago......

Thursday....... I fished at Round Meadow pond in Westminster Ma .....
using a pan fish jig I got at Kittery Trading Post and picked up
3 Crappies and a Yellow Perch.I was Surprised no Bluegills today

Aug 9 The week of...
Saturday afternoon..........
Matt an I drove to Cape Cod to fish for Stripers .Started fishing at the old sandwitch creek,
the tide was high and going out. we fished an hour and saw 2 stripers caught.
A lady here said a 42in striper was caught yesterday a mile off shore.
Saturday night.......
Fished beside Joe`s fish /Lobster with chunk Mackrel drifting and on the bottom.
The place was loaded with guys and gals looking for that 50+ striper.
I talked to a guy that said he and his dad use to navigate in Buzzads bay
with a compass and chart before GPS to lean the skill and that he and his buddy
got caught in the fog and got in because of what he had learned
Well the fishing was slow here tonight no one hooked up.
Sunday morning........
Today we bike fished from the R.R bridge to the Sagamore bridge.
It was nice morning fishing but no takers.
Sunday late afternoon......
The fishing picked up today with stripers feeding on the surface just west of the oil tanks.
One keeper and 4 shorts. One guy here was hooked up on a fly rod....
the fight was on for some time. All in all it was a great fishing trip ...

Aug 17 The week of...
Saturday night..........
Fished from shore at Paridise pond with 2 poles.one I fished the bottom
and the other top with Buzzbait and Jidderbug lures. The one fish I did
catch , a 14" pickerel I caught on a Jidderbug.On the other pole I used catfish bait
and a small signal bell that works pretty good. But no hornpout tonight.
Well it turns out I was fishing a long side a very large Snapping Turtle.
He was a foot way before I noticed. This big one may have weighed over 100lbs .
He was trapping small fish at the very edge of shore and inhaleing them when they get close.
Sunday.......
I stoped at Stuart pond in Sterling witch is really two ponds one on ether side
of the road but I only picked up 4 Bluegills and a yellow perch. So I headed to
MareMeadow Resevoir in Westminster to try my luck there.but 4 me it turned out kinda slow
,but a guy who was fishing up the road came over and showed me his
catch,a 19" bass.He said on the first cast with a Mepps spinner.
Sunday night .......
It was getting dark as I headed to Wyman Pond I started with a combo black worm silver spinner
before ending the night with top water crank bait. The black 4" worm took
two bass 16" +12" . Alot of fun on light tackle.

Sept 7 The week of...
I fished a lot this past week. Fishing almost every day for the last 10 days or so .The late summer fishing and my work takes up most of my time . ......Hey the saltwater migration has started so get out and fish ....
I`ll be out there on Long Island Sound and Cape Cod.
The two best times to fish is when it's rainin' and when it ain't.

Sept 19th...Barn Island,Weekapaug Breach
I drove down to the Barn Island Boat Ramp in Stoneington Ct. today at high tide.
The construction is complete on the new ramp with 2 floating docks
70ft long (+ -) and a ramp much deeper with a better surface.
The parking lot is paved and 4 times bigger than before.
On the fishing side I talked to a guy pulling in his boat
who had 1 small Striper and a ton of bluefish caught in the River at the usual hot spots.he said
There was alot or bait fish in the bay and I saw blue fish banging them
at the edges of the grass beds to the left of the launch.

..At 1:00 pm the Weekapaug Breach parking lots were allmost full .
Some people were swiming , surfing , or fishing
but in two hours of fishing today I only saw 2 schoolies caught.
I did talk to a guy that said fishing is about to really heat up here
in the next couple of weeks and that large Stripers are now being taken
at Fisher Island on the rocks .

Sept 26th...Leominster State Forest.
Went over to Paridise Pond this afternoon and shore fished a couple of hours.
The water was down about 8" but had good clarity .I`m not sure if the pond has turned over yet but fishing
was light with one 18" Pickerel caught on a 6" lizard and the bite
on pan fish was zero. There were about 5 or 6 people fishing
from shore and some kayaks here today also.

Oct 1st...Stillwater River, Crow Hill Pond
I fished two spots in two days. Crow Hill Pond and the Stillwater River. The fish were breaking the surface at Crow Hill Pond . I think they were small trout left over from this springs stocking.
I stayed two hours and caught one 12" Largemouth Bass.

At Stillwater River the rains have raised it 6 inches but the water was still clear. The Salmon were not in the river where I was and one guy I talked to said the fall upstream spawning starts out slow and build gradually .
Well 10 mins later a another guy shows up and casts 2 times and hooks up with a nice trout.
I`ll be checking back here again soon.

Nov 1st...Wachusett Resevoir, Stillwater River,Paridise Pond,Wyman Pond
........I fished midday for an hour or so at Wyman pond A few days ago .
The summer algae bloom is long gone. The water temp as well as boating traffic is off.
Fish are still biteing all be it slow.1 small Bass + 1 Crappie

........At Paridise pond I fished at night fall with a 6" black worm
and pickup one Crappie ......Spoted an Otter and 6 Canadian Geese and
one large ....thing..... swiming on the surface in the cove .
It was to far from me to tell what it was but it looked like a muskrat.

......I fished/walked the access road on the Stillwater River from Dada Hill road Bridge south
for a couple hundred yards.Past 2 beaver dams and several
gravel beds being worked by Salmon.
Streamers and thin-blade spoons are working here but
fly rods and a streamer is what most guys were using .
One guy I talked to caught a Salmon 300 yard down from the bridge on a fly rod
and another guy had a stringer of fish at the large tree that lays across the river.
I think he was using trout worms or some kind of live bait he drifted in the rip.

Dec 2nd...Salem Ma.
On Sunday at high tide the waves are blowing up through the deck at Willow Park Pier
I had heard the Cape Cod Canal Mackrel fishing never realy heated up this fall so I thought
I`d see if any were left on the north shore.Well I arrived at high tide to 3ft swells and 20 mph east wind.
I used a 5 hook mack rig on 12lb line with a sinker made from a spark plug .
cast with the wind let it sink and drag it along the bottom .
The homemade mack rig Imitates sand shrimp and will always get a bite .......if they are around .
