Writing a bibliography

 

Bibliographies can be written in different ways (or formats). What follows is a simple format that can be used to write a bibliography. Remember to ask your teacher if this format is acceptable for your research paper.

 

If you are using a book

Author's last name, Author's first name. Title of the book. City where published : Publisher's name, Year published.

 

Here is an example:

Harrison, John. New Hampshire Ghost Stories. New York: Random House, 1994.

 

If you use an encyclopedia article (either a print encyclopedia or electronic encyclopedia)

"Article title". Encyclopedia title. City published: Publisher's name, Year published.

 

Here is an example:

"New Hampshire". World Book Encyclopedia. Chicago: World Book, Incorporated. 1989.

 

If you use a web page

 

"Title of the web page". Name of the web site (if known). URL (the web page's address). The date that you visited this web page.

 

Here is an example:

"New Hampshire Facts". Webster - New Hampshire Online. http://www.state.nh.us. October 12, 2005.
